Join us for regular classes in traditional West African dance with Anika Kamińska. These will be meetings filled with incredibly energetic dance, unrestrained expression and joy, a solid dose of endorphins, and African sunshine. We work in a friendly atmosphere, giving each other good energy. No competition or judgmental looks. The workshops are open to complete beginners as well as more experienced participants. In Africa, everyone dances—young and old, regardless of gender or age—because African rhythms compel you to dance! African dance is a communal celebration of life and an exchange of energy that unites the community, pure fun, and joy. Many steps in this dance originated from imitating daily life activities or emphasizing the qualities and traits of the dancing gender, such as the strength of men, agility, speed, and bounce of young girls, the sensuality and delicacy of young women, or the dignity and elegance of older women. Learning this dance also involves learning African folklore and rhythms. The energy and joy flowing from unrestrained movements danced to the trance-like music of drums have made this dance increasingly popular in Europe and worldwide. For over a dozen years, it has been danced not only by native Africans but also by dancers and choreographers seeking the roots of dance. Bring comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and water to the classes. We dance barefoot. 📅 WEDNESDAYS 18:00-19:30 ✉️ Registration: [email protected] - include your phone number in the email, subject line AFRODANCE 💰 PRICE - Pass 160 PLN - 4 entries to be used within 5 weeks from the date of purchase. - 50 PLN - single entry 📍 Location: Atlas Tower Al. Her attributes as an instructor are joy, living life to the fullest, an unyielding youthful spirit, as well as understanding and patience. She is an archaeologist specializing in underwater archaeology, a travel and traditional culture enthusiast, but above all, a musician and dancer of traditional West African dance. She specializes in playing ethnic percussion instruments from various parts of the world. Years ago, while learning to play drums, she encountered African dance, which fascinated her at first sight, and she has consistently continued her development in this field. She approaches rhythm and dance as an inseparable whole, deeply understanding the relationship between these two areas, which she conveys and inspires in her workshops. Her passion for drums and dance is the main motivation behind her travels to Africa and Cuba. She learned African dance in Mali and Burkina Faso from renowned masters of African ballets and well-known dancers living in Europe. Anika is involved in promoting West African culture. She is a co-organizer of the Around The Rhythm Festival and conducts workshops at many festivals across Poland and abroad. She is the founder and musician in the bands Moribaya and Madrugada and leads drum-playing classes at Ankata! School of World Rhythms. Since 2023, she has also performed as a DJ under the name ANIKA. She also practices flow arts. Since 2025, she has been a co-founder of Fan Flow—a dance school specializing in silk fan dancing.
