    About the event

From the beginning of its existence, it inspired admiration, and its impressive style referenced the Palace of Versailles. The Krasiński Palace. By unanimous opinion of contemporaries, it was one of the most beautiful magnate residences in Warsaw, with a fabulous garden and a spacious courtyard. Its construction was an expression of the great ambitions of Jan Dobrogost Krasiński, an aristocrat who desired his palace to match, or even surpass, the beauty of the palace being built at the same time for King Jan III Sobieski in Wilanów. When the building became a government facility - the Palace of the Republic, it housed numerous institutions and state offices, and its vast courtyard became a public square, gradually surrounded by additional buildings. Currently, the Palace is a place where priceless objects of Polish and world literature from the collections of the National Library are stored. Here, we can see, among others, the famous "Florian Psalter," manuscripts of the chronicles of Gallus Anonymus, Wincenty Kadłubek, Jan Długosz, and manuscripts of Chopin's works. An exceptionally beautiful part of the 17th-century palace and garden complex is the picturesque Krasiński Garden, originally shaped in the Baroque style. It may not be as popular as the Royal Łazienki or as vast as the Saxon Garden, but it attracts with its atmosphere, delights with its colors, lush landscape, and historic details. And, like the palace and square, it is filled with extraordinary stories and events. During the walk, we will learn, among others: - Why did Jan Sobieski imprison the future founder of the Krasiński Palace? - How to convince a magnate to act according to the law? - What will be the result of combining a horseshoe and a raven? - What connects the Amber Room and the Krasiński Palace? - How to throw a party that is talked about for over 200 years? - What connects the founder of Polfa Tarchomin with the Krasiński Garden? - From which spas could you drink water in the famous Warsaw Pump Room? - Where were shoes from Bata and platters from Norblin bought? - Why can't you enter Starzyński's shelter? - What do Isaac Bashevis Singer and Władysław Bartoszewski reminisce about? - What do the Bonifraters have in common with Aleksander Fredro's "Revenge"? - Where can you see the Vistula River, the Baltic Sea, and mountains in one place? And many other colorful stories about people and places connected with the route of our walk. 📅 Start: 20.09 (Saturday, 12:00 PM in front of the entrance to the Krasiński Palace (Krasiński Square 3/5) 📍 End: Krasiński Square The walk will be led by KASIA - a licensed Warsaw guide 📞 Tel. 505 023 782 Participation in the walk is free, but a tip after the walk will be appreciated.
