Warsaw during the partitions became a Promised Land for many ambitious and capable people. They came seeking job opportunities and a better life. In the 19th century the city became the cradle of the rapid development of modern industry. Many products from Warsaw and its surroundings reached far beyond the borders of the Kingdom of Poland.
Among the entrepreneurial migrants were the Troetzer siblings – three brothers and two sisters. Their settling in Warsaw became a strong impulse that stimulated the production of world-class machines and processing equipment. Using this family as an example, the lecturer will present the development of the modern industry in Wola from the 1840s to the Great War, and also in Pruszków in the 20th century.
The lecture series “Warsaw, the Promised Land, and the development of its modern machine industry” consists of six unique meetings led by Dr. Mirosław Wawrzyński, the author of the forthcoming book "The Strength of the Troetzers: A Story about Eng. Józef Troetzer, the Last of a Line of World-Class Warsaw Manufacturers."
