Stanisław Baj has always fascinated me with his unwavering devotion to a single motif – the Bug River. He has made it not just a theme but a life destiny. His paintings form one great polyptych, a monumental story about water, light, and the passage of time. This is rare in art – artists usually change their visions, modify narratives, and seek new worlds. Baj, however, has remained faithful to one landscape while continuously discovering new dimensions of meaning and beauty within it. Even the portraits of his mother and the residents of his native village by the Bug seem like an annex to the story of the river. Portraits of water and portraits of faces intertwine into one narrative. It is as if the artist, while portraying people, is still portraying the river – the one that lives in them, and they in it. Each of his canvases is unique and independent, yet simultaneously part of a larger whole, like a verse of a long song or another episode of an endless series. In this consistency resonates an absolute love for the river – a feeling that transcends the boundaries of the theme and becomes a kind of spiritual confession. The talent, craftsmanship, and imagination of Stanisław Baj have allowed him to turn one landscape into an endless story. - Bożenna Leszczyńska - President of the OW ZPAP Board, Chairwoman of the Jan Cybis Award Committee, Exhibition Curator
