Maja Sikorowska and KROKE are a combination of two extraordinary forces: a singer who masters the Greek language perfectly and a band that moves effortlessly within Balkan climates. This collaboration produced the remarkable album “Avra”, which aims to show Polish listeners the beauty and authenticity of music that has not previously been presented in this form in Poland. The moving blend of voice and instruments transports listeners to other parts of Europe.
The band KROKE (Yiddish “Kraków”) was founded in 1992 by three Kraków musicians – Tomasz Kukurba, Jerzy Bawoł and Tomasz Lato. Although the group's beginnings were strongly rooted in the klezmer tradition, KROKE quickly developed its own style – freely combining ethnic sounds, jazz and contemporary music. In their current work the band draws inspiration from ethnic music and original improvisations. In this way they create their own style that rises above borders, forms and time, which has been noticed not only by audiences but also appreciated by artists around the world.
Maja Sikorowska – a Polish singer of Greek origin, daughter of Andrzej Sikorowski and Chariklia Motsiou-Sikorowska, members of the group Pod Budą.
