
Kakofonie is a Krakow concert series dedicated to improvised music. Its twelfth edition will take place on Sunday, December 7th at Betel. A bass-baritone quartet will perform, featuring: - Marcin Bożek (prepared acoustic bass) - Tomek Gadecki (baritone saxophone) - Ernest Ogórek (bass guitar) - Paulina Owczarek (baritone saxophone) The initiative is the result of collaboration between journalist and animator Mateusz Sroczyński (JazzPRESS, Czas Kultury, IR2, Noise Magazine, Ruch Muzyczny, Krzysztofory – Studio Kultury Krakowa) and the Betel club, with events under this banner taking place monthly. Marcin Bożek – bassist, improviser, teacher. Graduate of the Jazz and Popular Music Department at the Academy of Music in Katowice, he received his master's degree in bass guitar performance in 2003. Winner of many awards at international competitions and festivals. Full-time bassist at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia from 2005 to 2015. Since 2007, he has co-created the Polish improvised music scene. He improvises with musicians, actors, painters, artists, dancers, and solo. So far, he has performed in Poland, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Romania, Japan, and the USA. His artistic achievements include 10 CDs of original improvised music released in Poland and abroad. Founder and conductor of the Gdynia Improvisers Orchestra. Artistic and educational concert projects: Olbrzym i Kurdupel, Bass Solo, Double Trouble, Gdynia Improvisers Orchestra, Sadoil, Bożek/Kamins. He collaborates with Tomasz Gadecki, Aleksandra Bożek Muszyńska, Krakow Improvisers Orchestra, Rafał Mazur, Mikołaj Trzaska, Ken Vandermark, Danny Kamins, and Marie Takahashi. Tomasz Gadecki – born in 1971 in Gdynia. A charismatic and creative saxophonist who has devoted the last decade of his artistic work to broadly understood improvised music, achieving many successes in this field. In his work, the musician prioritizes openness and the search for truth until the last note. Associated with groups Olbrzym i Kurdupel, Sambar, ZUOM, Popsysze, Gadecki Quintet, Band A, Helatone, Szczęki. Ernest Ogórek – Creator of sound objects and installations. Bassist and double bassist, for years associated with the Krakow experimental music scene – Krakow Improvisers Orchestra, Moon2, OCHO, Pleśń. At the Commission of National Education University, he heads the Department of Artistic Education and also works as a cultural animator, long associated with ARTzona. Paulina Owczarek – saxophonist, improviser; plays alto and baritone saxophone, mainly freely improvised music. Currently active in bands: Sambar, Morświn, Figa, Krakow Improvisers Orchestra, Xatarata, Cranky Ego, WOO, and other improvising formations without a name and/or without a past/future; she also improvises with dancers, painters, and poets. 🎟️ Tickets at 40 PLN available in advance at the venue (Plac Szczepański 3) or 50 PLN on the day of the event. 🎉 The anniversary of Kakofonie is coming soon!
