About the event

The Theatre Institute invites you on March 18 at 6:00 PM to a discussion within the Intervention Theatre Forum “Why Is It Worth Organizing?”. Admission is free; reservations required: bilety@instytut-teatralny.pl.

What is the role of trade unions? Does their activity lead to real improvements in the wellbeing of people working in the theatre environment? During the discussion we will address issues concerning the role of union organizations in representing employees and, using successful initiatives as examples, answer why it is worth organizing.

We invited both representatives of trade unions operating within institutions and people representing unions that gather freelancers outside them. Participants in the meeting will include:

  • Jan Aleksandrowicz-Krasko — Representative of the Union of Actors of Polish Stages
  • Marian Bugdoł — Chair of the National Section of Employees of Artistic Institutions NSZZ Solidarność
  • Robert Gulaczyk — Polish Actors' Trade Union
  • Pamela Leończyk — Guild of Polish Theatre Directors
  • Paweł Nowożycki — Representative of the Nationwide Trade Union “Workers’ Initiative”

The discussion will be hosted by Zofia Sobczak, co-host of the podcast “News from the End of the World” and founder of the Safe Poland for Everyone Foundation.

The conversation will be interpreted into Polish Sign Language by Anna Borycka and Marlena Florczyk.

The Intervention Theatre Forum grew out of a working group that operated at the Theatre Institute during the pandemic. At that time key problems for the community were diagnosed, which the IFT seeks to address courageously.

In the 2025/2026 season the Intervention Theatre Forum returned in a new format. The project consists of two segments — problem-focused discussions and workshops. The discussions are aimed at a wide audience (i.e. the entire theatre community), while the workshops are particularly recommended for young working people, freelancers, and those reorganizing their careers.
