Enough about books. Important people. /C. Miłosz, Moral Treatise, 1947/ A series of monthly meetings with this very Miłosz-inspired title is a story about Krakow, above all about its cultural substance, history, and present. A story built and recalled from the perspective of people significant to the city—both real and symbolic—for its history and everyday life. The evenings are hosted by Bronisław Maj. A story about Wisława Szymborska—a brief and objective one—is absolutely impossible. For this Figure—Personality, Life, Fate—could only be approached through many self-contradictory paradoxes. A Ruthlessly Stern Sage, devoid of illusions about the meaning (or more precisely: the meaninglessness) of our existence here and—at the same time!—a wonderfully naive and innocent little Girl, with greedy curiosity and inexhaustible wonder gazing at and clinging to the world, worlds, and life. The author of only a few dozen brilliant poems (each built on a separate idea!) and—at the same time!—one of the most important figures in contemporary literature. An ordinary and statistical earthly life in terms of facts and—at the same time!—dizzying spaces of metaphysical experiences... And so on.
