"A Century of the Musical" - Dr. Daniel Wyszogrodzki 24 March 2026, 17:00 Klub Kazimierz, ul. Krakowska 13/17, Kraków

The lecture "A Century of the Musical" will concern the specifics of the genre — what distinguishes the musical from other forms of musical theatre, how it developed, how the themes of productions expanded, and finally what function it serves today in an era of great global popularity. A separate place will be devoted to the situation of the musical in present-day Poland and its development prospects.

Dr. Daniel Wyszogrodzki is a theatre translator specializing in musical theatre; he teaches the history of the genre at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw. He is also the author of the book "Ale musicale" and hosts music programmes on Radio 357.

The meeting is for adults. An induction loop will be available during the lecture.

About the project:

The project "Meetings with Culture and Art - theatre and new circus" consists of implementing a series of educational and artistic activities for adults devoted to various forms of performing arts. As part of the task:

• Six thematic lectures and two stage performances will be organized.
• The educational part will include lectures on the history of the circus, new circus, puppet theatre, musicals, dance theatre and opera. The lectures will be led by doctors, theatre actors and circus artists.
• Artistic part: presentation of two performances — one in the new circus trend and one representing dance theatre. The performances will be a practical complement to the lecture part, enabling direct contact with the discussed art forms.

Project aim: to develop the cultural awareness of the audience, promote contemporary artistic phenomena and build a dialogue between theory and practice of performing arts.

The project is financed from the funds of the City of Kraków.
