For the first time, Warsaw will be the subject of an exhibition at the Cabinet of Photography. The show will present photographs of the city as it expanded in the 1840s and 1850s and its transformation due to later investments from the 1880s. The architectural dress of streets and squares, as well as individual buildings shown from various perspectives, will recall the nineteenth-century history of our capital. Careful viewing of the displayed views will allow visitors to notice everyday life: residents’ activities, their appearance and customs, the development of means of transport, and even the types of paving used on the streets. We will examine views from 1858–1914 made by the owners of Warsaw photographic studios: Karol Beyer, Maksymilian Fajans, Konrad Brandel, Maurycy Pusch and Leonard Kowalski.
