“The Genesis and Beginnings of Polishness” | meeting with Tomasz Ulanowski and Prof. Dr. Hab. Przemysław Urbańczyk | hosted by Dominika Sitnicka Fascinating and often controversial questions about the origins of Polishness – whether it existed before the Piast state or is rather a product of later eras – and the role of Christianization in shaping our identity will serve as a starting point for a discussion about myths concerning Slavicness and the biological heritage of Poles. The discussion by the authors of the books “On the Formation of Poles,” “The Roots of Poland,” and “Before Poland Became Poland” will also touch on the latest archaeological discoveries and genetic research to ask questions about the extent to which our origins are encoded in genes versus culture and history. There will also be reflections on how we understand Polishness today – in a world of rapid changes, migration, and identity disputes – as well as considerations about the sources of Polish statehood, the influence of local and external factors on its formation, and how debates about our roots shape contemporary perceptions of nationality and patriotism. 🎟️ Free tickets available at our reception and online: https://bilety.io/0UKH0 Partners: - Mazovian Voivodeship Government - Warsaw University of Life Sciences - Vistula University of Finance and Business - Creative Space Art Foundation Honorary Patrons: - Minister of Culture and National Heritage - Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw Media Patrons: - Tok FM - “Gazeta Wyborcza” - “Polityka”
