It turns out that in the hands of masters even a small setup of two string instruments can sound like a full orchestra. On the new record by Janusz Strobel and Paweł Pańta, the beautiful, noble tone delights from the first seconds – a trademark of both artists and one of the most important features of this recording.

This is intimate music, full of breath and poetic thinking about sound. Janusz Strobel’s compositions – refined, elegant, soaked in his signature style – gain new space here thanks to the extraordinary musicality of Paweł Pańta, who not only supports but even amplifies their subtle perfection. The duo creates an unusually cohesive timbre: two separate stories that intertwine into a single voice. In the improvisations the roles of “accompanist” and “soloist” often blur — this happens thanks to imagination, freedom and the full equality of the parts. Both musicians react to each other in real time, building pulse and rhythm with a naturalness that occurs only in meetings of the highest-class artists.

On the record we find both virtuosic pieces and those full of calm. You can hear influences of Brazilian music — harmonies close to bossa nova tradition, but presented in a way far from cliché: sophisticated, yet light, pleasant and memorable. These are recordings that allow the listener to feel almost "within arm’s reach" of the artists. Every finger movement on the strings, every nuance of sound has been captured with remarkable production care. Chamber, intimate music-making in its purest, most beautiful form.
