    About the event

    We invite high school students, upper primary school classes, and teachers to free lectures and walks dedicated to various geographical topics. The lectures aim to engage listeners with the world around them, both near and far, and to expand their geographical knowledge. In the 2025/2026 academic year, during the winter semester, in-person lectures will take place on Thursdays specified in the schedule at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies on the Main Campus of the University of Warsaw (Wacław Nałkowski Hall, room 102), while online lectures will be held once a month. Walks will be organized almost every Thursday and will take place on the historic grounds of the University of Warsaw. 📧 Please send registrations, indicating selected dates and the number of students, to [email protected] PROGRAM OF IN-PERSON LECTURES IN THE MONTHS OF SEPTEMBER – FEBRUARY 2025/2026 (1:00 PM–2:45 PM): - September 25 – Dr. Adam Tyszkiewicz – Monuments and epidemics. Public art in the face of infectious diseases and collective memory. - October 9 – Dr. Kamil Leziak – From tornadoes to hurricanes: dangerous weather phenomena associated with strong winds. - October 23 – Dr. Dorota Giriat – Rivers in the city: How do humans alter river processes and affect valley landscapes? - November 6 – Dr. Jarosław Suchożebrski – Sometimes flood, sometimes drought… Facts and myths about Poland's water resources. - December 4 – Dr. hab. Elwira Żmudzka, Prof. UW – Local climate as an effect of large-scale climate-forming processes modified by local atmospheric conditions. - December 18 – Dr. Iwona Szumacher – In the footsteps of the Incas – Andean expeditions. - January 8 – Dr. hab. Maciej Dąbski – Greenland: nature, society, geopolitics. - January 15 – Prof. Dr. hab. Wojciech Dziemianowicz – Foresight, geography, space – let's talk about our future. - February 5 – Surprise lecture. - February 26 – Dr. Krzysztof Górny – Did Poland build a colonial empire? Life among penguins (the lecture will be delivered from Antarctica!). - February 3; 12:00 PM–1:30 PM – Dr. Anna Jarocińska – How to recognize plant stress from above? - February 17; 11:30 AM–1:00 PM – Dr. Maksym Łaszewski – On the springs of Warsaw and its surroundings from a hydrological and historical perspective.
