A jazz pianist reimagines early 20th-century Polish melodies with improvisation.

We invite you to the next concert in the Sound Politics series organized by the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Culture and Arts at the University of Warsaw.
Kuba Stankiewicz, one of Poland’s leading jazz pianists, listens to voices from the past. He reaches for music by early 20th-century composers, finding melodies on a par with the most famous jazz standards. In his improvisations, the music of Young Poland and the interwar period is given new life. Among his recent inspirations are two Warsaw composers: Ludomir Różycki (composer of the music for the first Polish sound film “Moralność Pani Dulskiej”) and Roman Statkowski (a teacher of a generation of composers who co-created the aesthetic of film music in the first decades of sound cinema). Alongside melodies by Różycki and Statkowski we will also hear music by a pioneer of Polish jazz – Henryk Wars.
