European Heritage Days at the Museum of Polish History 📅 September 20–21, 2025 📍 Warsaw Citadel | ul. Gwardii 1 Free admission! Registration required: [email protected] How can we tell the story of a place that remembers centuries? How can we capture the history hidden in walls, but also in empty spaces and lost buildings? This year's edition of EHD is held under the theme "Towards Architecture. Young Heritage," and together with you, we want to look at the Warsaw Citadel from a new perspective. 📅 Saturday, September 20, 11:00 AM–4:00 PM - "Space – Archive – Memory" | photography workshop with Jan Smaga During an exclusive workshop with artist-photographer Jan Smaga, we will view the Citadel as a palimpsest – a place where the present overlays layers of the past. Participants will create their own photographs and artistic postcards – selected works will be added to the MHP Mediatheque collection! 📍 Where? MHP | main hall | educational room 2 and Warsaw Citadel grounds The organizer does not provide photographic equipment. Registration: [email protected] About the instructor: JAN SMAGA (b. 1974) lives and works in Warsaw. He is the author of conceptual documentations, photographic and sound works. His creations focus on the relationships between architecture, private space, and the human body. He collaborates regularly with institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Zachęta, Foksal Gallery Foundation, and Raster Gallery, creating a unique archive documenting contemporary Polish art. Between 1994–2000, Smaga studied at the Graphic Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He works in photography, combining classical large-format photographic techniques with computer montage and constructing three-dimensional photographic objects. Together with Aneta Grzeszykowska, he has carried out projects translating three-dimensional architectural spaces into two-dimensional images. In 2019, at Zachęta, the National Gallery of Art, a joint exhibition by Hanna Rechowicz and Jan Smaga titled KOŁO was held. He is also the creator of the WILAND brand, designing fountain pens. 📅 Sunday, September 21, 12:00 PM–1:00 PM - "Layers of History at the Citadel" | intergenerational family workshop Together with children, parents, and grandparents, we will discover what existed on the Citadel grounds before the fortress was built. Using old maps and photographs, we will create graphic installations and drawn reconstructions of buildings that no longer exist. This is not just fun but also a living history lesson – we invite families with children, seniors, history enthusiasts, and anyone curious about urban stories. 📍 Where? main hall | MHP garden and Warsaw Citadel grounds (in case of bad weather: educational room 2) Join us and together let's explore what young generation heritage means – in photographs, memories, and a landscape that is constantly changing.
