About the event

A series of lectures titled Royal Gardens of Warsaw will showcase the most valuable historical residential gardens that have survived to the present day. The historical character of the parks will be presented along with information about their transformations, leading to their current form. They stood out for their size, scale of solutions, and impact on the surrounding space. Together with other elements, they formed larger compositional wholes, in which the role of the monarch's residence clearly dominated. This also resulted in strong connections with the city's urban layout, particularly visible in the formation of the Saxon Axis and Stanisław Axis. Gardens at royal residences became an inspiration for the creation of magnate residences and noble estates. Their significance for the development of garden art in Poland is therefore considerable. Warsaw gardens at royal residences in Wilanów, Łazienki, Ujazdów, the Saxon Palace, and the Royal Castle are among the most magnificent garden objects in the country. Today, they are public spaces accompanying museum facilities or serving as city parks.
