Join us for the first of four walks as part of the "Warsaw Villages" project. The Wawer district (or – as the older, informal name of this area suggests – the Otwock Line) is a collection of former spa towns, located along two compositional axes: the railway line leading to Lublin and Wał Miedzeszyński (the road to Puławy). The former character of this area is gradually disappearing, but it remains an unusual example of a suburban area in the capital, illustrating the implementation of a classic, though rarely seen in Poland, planning concept. The walk, aimed at showcasing the diverse forms of urban development in this area – from traces of traditional villages, still occasionally visible in the vicinity, to the most contemporary layers of local urbanization – will be led by a local resident. 📅 23.08.2025, 11:00 AM 📍 Meeting point: platform of the Warszawa-Radość railway station Participation in the walk is free of charge. Assistant professor at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Resocialization at the University of Warsaw, as well as a lecturer collaborating with the School of Ideas at SWPS University and the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. Visiting researcher at the Kyiv National University of Architecture and Construction (2021), the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography in Leipzig (2022), and Tallinn University (2024). Author of numerous publications, including the books "Holes in the Ground. Patho-Development in Poland" (Czarne, 2023), "Urban Fears. The 15-Minute City, 5G, and Other Monsters" (Krytyka Polityczna, 2024), "The Non-Post-Socialist City. Urban Policymaking in Central and Eastern Europe" (Routledge, 2026). His research focuses primarily on social conflicts surrounding urban policy, urban populism, and urbanization processes in the former Eastern Bloc countries. He spent the first seventeen years of his life in Warsaw's Radość district.
