On September 9th, at 6:00 PM, we invite you to a film screening and meeting. How often do you get to watch short films in the cinema? These are explosive films that need only a few minutes to reach the viewer and stay in their memory for a long time. Almost unavailable in traditional cinema distribution, they can mainly be seen in festival programs. We want to change that! 🎤 Host: Katarzyna Czajka-Kominiarczuk 👥 Guests: Alicja Sokół, Kajetan Falkowski | Bartosz Brzeziński, Max Bugajak | Paweł Hejbudzki, Adam Bobik 🎨 Curator: Zuza/Juzek Kopcińska Every month in Warsaw's Żoliborz district, at the iconic Elektronik cinema, the Warsaw Film School organizes short film screenings as part of the "Idzie nowe! Student Film Screenings" series. We invite you to screenings of short fiction and documentary films produced by WSF, recognized at festivals in Poland and around the world. This month, we invite you to celebrate the jubilee 50th edition of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia! On this occasion, we will showcase three wonderful films that have won prestigious awards in Gdynia in previous editions of the short film competition. After the screening, we will talk with the creators about their creative journey after winning Poland's most important award for short fiction, memories of making student films, and plans for the future. What will you see on Elektronik's screen? - "My Brother the Fisherman," Alicja Sokół, '20 Somewhere at the end of the world, in a small fishing village, live two brothers who are completely different from each other. While the older one dedicates himself to work, the younger one listens every day to a radio contest program that could change his life for the better. When their father disappears one day, the brothers must come together, taking on his duties at the fishing port. The film won the Lucjan Bokiniec Award for Best Film in the Short Film Competition at the 46th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in 2021. It was also honored with the Heliograf company award for best cinematography for Kajetan Falkowski. - "Howl," Bartosz Brzeziński, '30 Kuba grows up in a small, sleepy village where nothing ever happens. He is raised by his alcoholic father, who spends his days tending sheep. One day, an old acquaintance from the big city visits the village. The guest's visit coincides with the moment when the main character begins to explore his sexuality. Kuba quickly faces a difficult choice. The film won a Special Award in the Short Film Competition at the 46th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in 2021. - "Charon," Paweł Hejbudzki, '35 A mentally challenged boy working as a hospital orderly believes he has the gift of healing.
